I just purchased a used windshield and now I need help installing it. What should I do?

Hi Dennis! An old or damaged windshield needs to be replaced not only because using it is against the law but for the reason that it can obstruct your view when driving. Purchasing a used windshield is one good way of saving money, installing it yourself, will allow you to save even more. This process can be easy provided that you do have a helper that will not allow the new windshield to break.
To install your used windshield, first you need to remove the molding using a screwdriver. Make sure you are using a screwdriver with flat-head and be careful when removing the molding since you’ll be using it again.
Second, using a nail, create a hole into the sealer that holds the old windshield. Placed the guitar string into the hole, and then slowly go around the windshield using the guitar string.
Third, carefully take out the old windshield. Remove the old sealer by using putty knife. Soak the area with gasoline to completely remove the sealer.
Fourth and lastly, apply the sealer around your car’s frame. Then by using your helper, place the new windshield sealer at the center, starting with the bottom part. Don’t forget to press around its edges to completely seal and be able to replace the molding.

I was driving home when I realized my windshield is cracked about 2 feet across towards the bottom near the dash. The funny thing is, the crack looked like an elongated smile, symetrical with both ends turned up again like a smile.

For sure, installing a used windshield rather than a whole new one could save you money. Also, if you put it in by yourself, it can save you all the more money. The procedure on installing used windshield is quite less demanding if someone would assist you to avoid the windshield to break. You have to replace a broken down windshield since it could be against the law and could hinder your eyesight while driving.
The first thing you need to do to put in the replacement windshield is to detach the molding using a screwdriver. Remember to put it aside for later use. After that, use a nail to nudge an opening in the sealer which keeps the old windshield. Place a guitar string in the opening then gradually go round the windshield using the guitar string, tugging it to and fro to disconnect the windshield sealer.
After the old windshield has been removed, you can use a putty knife to get rid of the rest of the sealer. Put some fuel on a cloth then apply it on the remaining sealer and allow it to soak. Completely take off the windshield sealer using a putty knife.
Put in the new windshield sealer all over the frame. Along with your assistant, the replacement used windshield must be centred in the frame. The base of the windshield must be put in first and then place down the windshield till it is in. Push around every border in order to seal and change the molding.
