Used Windshield Installation

Reader Question

Hey guys, I just bought a used windshield and I can not find an installer to put the windshield in my truck, what do I do now?

Hey Tom, we answered this question previously with another reader question. You might be able to save a lot of money on the actual used windshield part versus a new one but the problem you might run into is who and how do you get it installed. You should keep calling local installers in your area, you are bound to find a mom and pop shop that will take on the challenge…the big guys will probably not mess with it.

You should also tell them you are not holding them responsible for chipping or cracking your used windshield as they try to remove the old weather stripping gasket….a chance of breaking the glass is high, although if you got the shield for cheap, I would take the chance.  See if YOU can remove the sealer yourself, but take your time and don’t get to rough with it.

If you still can not find an installer, you might want to check out this youtube video below and see if you can tackle the job yourself. It’s not easy, but is doable if you take your time.  Hardest part of course is making sure you get the used windshield sealed properly….obviously.

If all else fails, try getting a price quote on a new aftermarket windshield from this site, you would be surprised at how cheap the prices are on most cars and trucks these days thanks to China and their cheap labor force. :(
